Rider to Rider Communications

From every review I’ve read, and people I’ve talked to, the best bang for the buck is the Chatterbox FRS-X2 or GMRS-X1.[1] $200 to $400, depending on which model and so on.

Two sportbike riders were using them on a ride I was on the other week, and reported that they were functional up to about 65 MPH, with earplugs, on Honda CBR 600F4i motorcycles. With more wind protection, I’d assume they would be good to higher speeds.

Well, after a month not posting to the KSHSTA blog, I’m back - sorry about that!

I took a bit of a ride down to Fort Davis, TX for TexSTOC 06 - great event and great country.

I’ll be posting more tips, info and links in the future, and watch this space for upcoming Kansas events! (yes, I’m actually going to host an event again!)

Another from the archives...

The design of the jacket is interesting. Three layers. Upon putting it on for the first time, I was SURE that the sleeves would be too short, but after “assuming the position” my wife noticed that that sleeve length with my arms extended vs. the sleeve length with them at my sides did not change much due to a very ingenious shoulder / arm design, allowing the sleeves to extend from the rear of the shoulder attachment / rotate forward slightly. The Kenya did not have this feature, and compensated with extra overall sleeve length.

Garmin GPS Sample Data loads for memory cards

Filed under: General on Thursday, September 21st, 2006 by Will England | No Comments

Sample data loads
Mapsource’s Metroguide Software covers the entire USA. The USA is divided
up into 7.5Mb to 8Mb “zones”. These zones are pre-determined.
You can’t load a partial zone. So a 16Mb datacard will hold two Metroguide
zones. A 32Mb datacard will hold four zones. A 128 Mb datacard will hold
about 17 zones. There is a new 256Mb datacard, for SPIII and GPS276c ONLY.

Garmin International
June 27, 2006 — Garmin today announced an update on the launch of its application support for Mac OS X version 10.4 “Tiger.” The company’s Training Center software is now expected to be compatible with Mac OS X version 10.4 “Tiger” by the end of 2006. Also at that time, we will announce the expected completion date for Garmin’s other hardware and software applications. We thank the Mac community for their support, understanding and patience as we work through these unanticipated delays, and we look forward to providing Mac users with direct support for their Garmin products.

Pillion Riding Tips

Originally written by 'jenner' in rec.moto in 2002, it's a good one to re-read...

Passengers are usually at the mercy of the rider’s good sense, or sometimes the lack thereof. Many passengers don’t know better. So much is written on riding a bike, so many classes are offered for riders, yet very little is offered for passengers.

With that, here are my suggestions for passengers:
