Winfield RTE Wrapup
While most everyone else was in Daytona enjoying the races, more than half a dozen midwesterners got out and met for pizza and tire kicking in Winfield, KS last Saturday. This was my first RTE I’ve tried to organize, and it came off pretty well. We had three folks from Wichita show up, one from KC and two late arrivals from Arkansas / Oklahoma. Two local folks and my mom rounded out the crowd and we stuffed ourselves on Captain Tonys’ pizza buffet.
I learned something - bring a notepad! I met many new faces (Bob, Bill, Glen, ???) and today have promptly forgotten most of their names! Sorry to everyone for that.
Robert Bashaw from LoweST Arkansas was the long distance winner on his ST1100 with nearly a 500 mile one-way ride. Least miles ridden award goes to me in the truck - I drove down. Dang carbs…
Most interesting bike was Bob Rippy on his new Buell Ulysses, down from Kansas City. We all spent a half an hour or so checking out the unique design of the bike.
It was a great time, and thanks to everyone who showed up for making a great RTE. I’ll be doing this again later this year, and next time I’ll remember a notepad!

It was good to get together, and have an excuse for a short ride. I even ran into an old riding buddy from twenty-some years ago. Three of us took the Grouse Creek Road route after lunch.
There’s a great BBQ place in west Hutchinson (Roy’s,) if anyone’s looking for another RTE lunch destination for later in the spring.
