New Scenic Byways in Kansas
WASHINGTON - Drivers who love touring scenic country roads now have some new routes to follow in Kansas.
The Federal Highway Administration on Thursday designated two areas in the state as National Scenic Byways based on their natural, recreational, historic and scenic qualities. The Flint Hills Scenic Byway is a 48-mile route on K-177 that passes fields of wildflowers and waving grasses on the way to the Santa Fe Trail and the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. In south-central Kansas, the Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway offers a 77-mile tour through the wetlands of Quivira National Wildlife Refuge and Cheyenne Bottoms.
