Why’s Everyone Picking on Me?

2008 Bike Week Wrap-Up
the majority of Americans not only don’t own motorcycles, they don’t personally know anyone who does. Their impression of motorcycle riders comes from the knuckle-dragging, hammer-pounding buffoonery that they see on reality TV. So if you feel that popular opinion had turned against motorcycles, maybe this is what happens when we let our public relations be handled by people who die doing stunts, violate environmental regulations and kill people by driving drunk. Even the Japanese manufacturers have stooped to using photos of bearded, tattooed and scowling white guys to sell their products. We’ve cultivated, marketed and manufactured the bad-boy, outsider, rebel image, so why are we complaining when people don’t like us?

Ride To Eat: Hutchinson, KS – Saturday, March 29 - Roy’s BBQ, Kansas Cosmosphere, plus Pie in Yoder on the way home.

We’ll meet for lunch at Roy’s Hickory Pit Barbeque (1018 Nickerson Blvd, Hutchinson) at noon. This will give the KC guys some time to travel. The BBQ at Roy’s is excellent.

After lunch, we’ll ride to the Kansas Cosmosphere (1100 N. Plum St, Hutchinson.) The Cosmosphere (www.cosmo.org) has a German V1 and V2, an SR71, a T-38, a rocket sled, a 109 ft. Titan rocket, Russian and US space capsules (including the Liberty Bell 7, Gemini X, and Apollo 13 command module,) and innumerable other artifacts.

After touring the Cosmosphere, and letting the BBQ settle, we’ll have some Pie at the Carriage Crossing in Yoder (a few miles south of Hutchinson) before heading home. Yoder is a little Amish community, but the Carriage Crossing draws people from all around.

Roginoz will buy lunch for the rider traveling the farthest. (Even the three-meat combo, if you’re man - or woman - enough to tackle it.)

Roy’s BBQ is in the POIs on your Zumo. Zumo says it’s 239 miles from KCK, 3:41. Mapquest shows 221 miles from KCK, 3:40. Zumo says 51 miles from Wichita, 1:01. Mapquest shows 53 from Wichita, 1:05. Zumo says 586 miles from Lubbock, 8:48. (Riders from Lubbock get free pie, too.)

Weston, MO RTE Coming Up!

Filed under: Events on Thursday, October 25th, 2007 by Will England | No Comments

We’re still a “GO” for the Weston, MO Ride to Eat at America Bowman at 500 Welt Street, Weston, MO. ( http://www.westonirish.com/ ) Weather is forecast to be in the 60’s…

— Sun, 10-28; 11:30 AM —

Well, that was fun. NOT. Rolled out on the highway to head North, shifted into third, gave it some gas (OK, a lot of gas) and zziingg! Zoomm! Revs shot up, bike sat there. Ok, less gas… And it caught. Looks like the clutch has finally given it up. I was wondering about that - the last double saddlesore I did it was acting a bit funny. Made it home no problem, but now I’m done riding till I get the clutch pulled and replaced.

Hope y’all had a good time - send me some photos!

That’s it. Nothing else new. Sigh. At least they didn’t announce the VFR yet - we still have hope that there’s something new and outstanding coming there!

Shoot. The VFR is silver now. Time to go put money down on that leftover 2006 white one! *This* is their “dream” launch? A new VTX1300 mid-size cruiser with factory bags. Bleh.

Audiovox CC vs MCCruise Setup

Read from the MCCruise Company - what is the difference?

I am not sure whether there is any restriction as to how much we can say here, but I will be as straightforward as I can. The key issues you raise seem to be:1. Safety issues? 2. MC Cruise performance vs Audiovox. and 3. Why is out kit so expensive compared to the Audiovox kit?

Flint Hills serenade in Cottonwood Falls, KS

Flint Hills serenade in Cottonwood Falls, KS

Cottonwood Falls, KS has been hosting a ‘jam session’ every friday for years and this is the first I’ve heard of it!

Beginning in 1999, “music night” was the first Friday of every month. It soon became every Friday. The indoor jams moved outdoors during mild weather, then back inside when it was bad.

These days, the first Friday of each month is dedicated to acoustic country music, the second to acoustic gospel music, the third to bluegrass and the fourth to vintage country and rock ‘n’ roll.

Cottonwood Falls is a great destination - about 20 miles North of Cassoday on K177, or about 35 miles South of Council Grove. Stay tuned - I’ll sort out the details and we’ll have a ride to jam some Friday this fall!
